This podcast was initially just about the reggae, and that it is a global phenomenon now, much to the pioneering efforts of the late Bob Marley, but it is also about the continued musical explorations and initatives of many other musicians, initially in Jamaica, and now the world. It is also about the message, that the world needs to be shared, that the colonial mentality of the past should be a thing of the past, and not something daily rekindled by corporations and armies.
I reference in particular here the plight of the people of West Papua, and their ongoing struggle against the oppression of the Indonesian military, who pay their soldiers in seized properties, and the neglect of governments' around the world on the West Papuan's struggle for their own independence. The large corporations intent on stealing, with assistance of corrupt officials, is the modern colonialist plague that was meant to be left for the scrapheap and the history books, instead it is OUR modern history of the world.
Reggae has always been about the struggle against oppression, and one hopes that the New Year will bring the changes the world needs, that people's lives and lands will be respected before and after any contact with government and corporation, there are too many living daily lives of destruction, violence and horror solely to feed the greedy pockets of a few, the struggle continues, hope you like the mix.........

This show is a shout out to Ambrose, in memory of his Red Chicken and Rice and the whisky shared before heading off to our favourite music club in Brighton, some years passed now. Probably should have added some Brass Construction and Tower Of Power to really bring back the mood, but think this show has plenty of brass to go around. Not all the music is African based though definitely bears the influence. Another couple of shoutouts to Kurt S. for initial motivation, and to Tim at www.waxmuseumrecords.com.au for bringing a new African compilation on vinyl to my attention.
Big thanks to all the new people who have asked to be friends, but must not forget those still wrestling the systems that place so many lives in misery and horror. There is enough to share in this world, without the call for reductions in populations( usually by those living a comfortable life at the expense of others' destitution). Our water resources are being daily contaminated by poor manufacturing/mining processes and then big business wants to make destructive profits at community and environmental expense. Here's hoping the music takes us away from this road to oblivion for a time. Hope you like the mix......

Sorry for the delay in getting this new podcast posted, but life gets in the way sometimes, either that or it's part of my disorganisation skills. "The Sleepwalker Penumbra" is pretty much a walk through some different soundscapes, perhaps showcasing some of the divergence of sound since the 60's psychedelic period through the THC induced dub sensimmilations of Jamaica, to the modern times and various musicians' commitment to a humanitarian planet, revelling in diversity, the continuing struggle for human rights. Hope you like the mix......

What a waste of humanity, and what a destruction of so many lives. Big Business and the Shareholders hold the blood money in their corporate hands, and make the decisions afflicting so many with intolerable living conditions.
The music roams through South America, the USA, Britain, the caribbean, the Pacific and Australia. A bit longer than ususal and with many moods and swings elaborating in small ways my frustrations with world conditions, that see ever increasing numbers of people left out of the general scheme of things while they struggle to make ends meet.
Big thanks to Tim at Exile for putting me on to The Fire This Time. Hope you like the mix....

People Without Borders is a podcast about different international artists whose music crosses mainstream borders to unite our shared humanity. It is also a reference to the current world refugee crisis, that sees millions (in Pakistan alone) fleeing the familiarity of their home and birthplace to seek a safer and more secure way of life in another place, leaving either through the threat of violence to family and friends or through the need to establish secure financial lifestyles for their families. Too often the road travelled, is harsh and unforgiving, too often it is rife with human predators eager to impose new miseries. The time is long overdue for the imbalances of the world economic systems to be redressed, for the marginalised and obscenely exploited to be allowed the same opportunities to live secure and peaceful lives. It is time for multinational corporations to address the needs of the communities whose resources they aggressively plunder and to give full and proper compensation for the wealth these companies accrue to those affected communities. This should be a no-brainer for all of these companies' shareholders, instead they allow managements' complicity in the perpetuation of misery.
The show contains works from Africa, South America, the USA, and Jamaica, hope you like the mix...

This podcast is dedicated to all the prisoners around and about, hope it provides some relief to those fortunate enough to have access to the internet. For those unable to access hopefully someone can pass the show along. Currently prison populations are an ever growing resource for certain business/vested interests and prison populations continue to grow at alarming rates.
"One in four prisoners in Australia is indigenous and their over-representation in the jail system is only getting worse, a new report states.
Aborigines are 13 times more likely to be locked up than other Australians, while the proportion of indigenous women being incarcerated has tripled in the past 20-odd years.
Half of the 10- to 17-year-olds in corrective institutions are indigenous." http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/5678350/a-quarter-of-prisoners-are-indigenous/
With Aboriginal people comprising only 1%-2% of the total Australian population such a rate of incarceration paints an ugly picture of the true, parlous state of Indigenous/Settler relations. As a recent signatory to the United Nations "Recognition of Indigenous Rights Agreement", the dire situation of some of Australia's aboriginal population should be drawing widespread, worldwide condemnation.
The rising tide of African-American and Latino-American prisoners on marijuana possession charges is also alarming, with the US imprisoning more of its population than any other nation in the world.
"* We have increased the number of people behind bars from roughly 500,000 people in 1980 to 2.3 million today.
* In the U.S., we have less than 5 percent of the world's population, but almost 25 percent of the world's prisoners." http://www.alternet.org/drugreporter/140502/hey_progressives%3A_why_don%27t_you_care_about_the_%22drug_war%22_like_you_care_about_other_issues/
And let's not forget Leonard Peltier, "Peltier has been behind prison bars for more than half of his life (he turned 63 this past September)."http://lpdctexas.blogspot.com/
Yes there are prisoners who have committed terrible deeds, but there are also unconscionable numbers of peoples incarcerated for victimless crimes, who with better programs implemented by governments would provide valuable service to their communities.
And let's not forget those prisoners of political conscience, throughout the globe, imprisoned by government's unwilling to share alternative ideas on a country's future possible direction(Aung Saan Su Kyi of Myanmar/Burma is known by the world, but how many countless others remain invisible), under corrupt governments' reigns of terror.
To these people, I hope sanity will prevail, and those ogres feasting on the misery of others will find some humanity before avariciously seeking inhumane profits.

2. Sly & the Family Stone; Run, Run, Run; A Whole New Thing
3. Qucksilver Messenger Service; Fresh Air, Just For Love

10. Ed Kuepper; Highway To Hell; Sings His Greatest Hits For You
11. Frank Zappa; Help I'm A Rock; Freak Out
12. Grateful Dead; Feedback; 1969-12-12
This podcast seems a bit more laidback than some of the earlier ones, mellower maybe. It ranges across a very broad spectrum of musical styles that may leave some listeners undecided, but hopefully each track manages to walk with the other. From punk's now sadly parted grand-meister Ian Dury and the Blockheads the scene shifts to Sly and the Family Stone, a quick gasp of some Fresh Air before we head into Depression era gospel by Alfred Karnes.
Manu Dibango recedes let the Steve Miller Band in experimental mode turn on Jackson-Kent Blues, before another Depression era tune from the Carolina Tar Heels. DMZand then the Crawdaddys for a complete change of pace, before Australia's Ed Kuepper does his wonderful version of "Highway to Hell". Finishing up with a track from Frank Zappa's first album "Freak Out" and segueing out with some feedback by the Grateful Dead. Don't know how you would go about googling this show, though there are many well-known artists represented to be picked up by Google. All this chat about Google is a brazen attempt to see if it picks up anymore listeners, haha. Only time and Google will tell, hope you like the mix....
